What’s Up With Sanmina-SCI?
On a day when the tech sector is staging an impressive rally, something is going wrong with Sanmina-SCI (SANM). The contract manufacturer’s shares are down 11 cents, or 6.8%, to $1.51, on volume of 22.6 million shares, about four times average daily turnover in the stock.
No news; no SEC filings; no analyst reports.
Theories welcome.
something called “insiders” info, being spread around to friends in a few days we will find out too
I have been waiting and waitng and waiting to see what the hell is going on with this company. I have held this stock for quite sometime now.I bought in at 3.61 and it has been down ever since. Some word to the shareholders should be given especially now that it is scraping the bottom of the barrel. Actually it is a joke!
Hopefully this stock will see $3 in the near term. Not sure how, but you never know with these kind of stocks. Anything is possible
Someone dumped around 16 million shares all at once. Could be that Cal. school pension fund that was all ticked off at them for lousy performance a few months back. I sold one position and bought Visa two weeks ago. Still have one position and am wondering just how long this dog is going to lay in the dump. They should do better as the dollar gets worse. Yea, I know, should , could , would. Tomorrow is another day.
Somebody ran out of patience…
poor management and no logistic capability
With over 10 Billion in revenue and 1 Billion in cash the company could buy up its share and go private then these crooks need not be accountable to their shareholders? But until then Sanmina must either perform or calm its shareholders.
Maybe tring to sell co & make huge merger bonuses & kill shareholders !!!!!
The rumers here in Huntsville, Alabama is that layoffs are coming and that the government sector may be sold. Again just rumers.
Such a shame to see how Sanmina is just running this company into the ground!
this sanm will be at 1 dollar by monday strongsell
$1 dollar? Yes it does seem probable, considering the stock seems to be tanking. It is very unlikely though. If you read the recent press release, they have a new product under their name that will generate serious cash. A company with over 10billion in revenue will NEVER see $1 a share
As part of my continuous improvement research, I am interested on your thoughts regarding our April 01, 2008, volume of 25,678,400 and the April 02, 2008, volume of 12,710,000.
Pursuant to our Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and continuous improvement¡¦, Sanmina-SCI Corporation is a company that I know is more than viable for successfully meeting the needs of customers and shareholders¡¦
I am interested in learning about the current volume differentials and the current state of management in light of our stockholders¡¯ concerns such as presented by CalPERS. What about BARRON¡¯S conducting an in-depth probe?
My colleagues and I care about Sanmina-SCI Corporation being in-service to our customers and successful for our shareholders¡¦Your thoughts are appreciated.
Thank you

The stoch are going down becuase there is a rumour that Flextronics is going to buy Sanmina. It may shoot up!!!Any Comment on this
Sanmina appears to be run by a group of screw ups. The possibilities are real. From my sparse knowledge of the Huntsville operation, they hire retreaded deadheads into middle management. Morale is extremely low - people in planning are jumping ship and internal improvement by employees is near zero.
Olin King surely must be sickened by what has developed.
SSCI is a company that -at every level -tries to squeeze a profit from every part of its supply chain, and fails miserably. Their biggest issue: A complete disrespect for core values and ethics, this flows from the top and if you are treated poorly then you will treat others in a simliar way. What is sad is that the upper management of this company has trained all of its employees to get blood from a stone with no interest in long, term relationships nor the value of long term employees who do care about the company. As a supplier to SSCI they give us the “mushroom” treatment - keep us in the dark and feed us a bunch of s&*t..These guys have way too much inventory of semiconductors, their customers are bailing to Flex/SOL and Foxconn. SSCI is simply moving what they have left to Mexico and the other LCC - and srewing the USA..good luck.. we trained the Chinese - now the genie is out of the bottle. All the GSM level execs are moving East - if not - you are shown the door.. Also they are trying to buy parts from Chinese dealers that are great on price and low on quality. Recently they added several Chinese brokers to sell them Xilinx devices and the parts have been blowing up..yes- but the price was right..I hope Victor knows what he is doing - or does he care..I think not. Look for SSCI to be sold off in bits and pieces or simply implode.
This is a cancer paitent trying to recover - only to be fed fake-toxic Heparin
SANM has been been recommanded today to all subscribers of the StarStocks.net as likely to have a positive correction. It may pump up its value for a few days at least.
They are like pests. Pump some stocks up only to dump them a week later.
What is wrong with Sanmina? I been holding their stock for so long and loosing all my money. When are they gonna going back up? Or are they going to be like Enrone that making their employee loose all their money?
It is an interesting thought on why our SANM stock is lowering; as part of my upcoming MBA graduate work, I have been looking into how SANM can obtain FLEX.
I am interested in learning more about our Huntsville-Alabama plant, including what is happening with continuous improvement; i.e. why isn¡¯t such improvement truly happening and why is morale so low?
I am also interested in learning more about why there appears to be a disrespect for core values and ethics. By the way, who is Victor?
It has been a very good read on how we are seen - Your assessment is appreciated and I look forward to your next thoughts.
Thanks

For the kind of volume of volume that SANM has on a daily basis, it is frustrating to see it move (either up or down) so slowly. News was released today about the new software it came up with. Normally, it should shoot the price of the stock up, surprisingly, in SANM’s case, it did not do much at all!!
They may be pests but their strategy is effective, if one knows when to enter and exit.
Everyone is waiting for this stock to shoot way up. It’s not going to happen overnight. In the mean time there is money to be made on this stock. Since Jan. I’ve made significant amount of money, over 83%, on this stock. How you ask? You have to know when to buy and sell. For example: 1/22 – 1/23 more than 17%, 1/25 – 2/7 more than 40% and 3/17 – 3/25 more than 27%.
When I checked the dates you gave it became clear that you bought each time when the stock hit the lower Bollinger band and stochasticks were at 20 and going up. Interestingly this stock hit the lower Bollinger band and stochastics at 20 and going up again at the end of last week. Thus it may hit 1.80-1.90 next week (the upper Bollinger band at that time) before taking another dive. Maybe the pests know something after all.
I just read on Sharebuilder.com website that a reputable Irish Research and Markets has just annoounced an addition of Sanmina to their offering.
I agree with “Concerned Vendors” comments that SANM has trained their employees to get blood from rocks at any cost. I left the company as a manager because of their unethical and illegal behavior and transactions. They treat their employees like trash and allow poor quality product to be sold to make the “numbers”. Moral and quality go hand in hand and moral is as low as it can get.
Why are you all waisting your time with this company? Move on and find a real job !!!
This company SUCKS !!!!
As has been stated by several others, SANM is not a company people flock to work for unless you like to beat people down. This type of behavior is prolific at SANM and encouraged. Employees and used like machines and when they get burned out they are terminated and new ones hired in their place only to start this vicious cycle over again. Most of the managers are not college degreed people who can’t make business decisions. This is one company where a high school degree is worth more than a college degree if you are good at breaking down the spirit of people to get the job done. Glad I no longer work for SANM !!!!
When I started with the company the stock was at $95.76, it is now at $1.46, need I say more?
Everything I have been presenting is about continuous improvement of Sanmina-SCI Corporation.
I have given my word of honor to colleagues that I will not disclose who they are for the continuous improvement information they have provided to me. Colleagues throughout my associated plant are scared that they would be fired just as others have in the past for ¡°doing good¡± or in Sanmina-SCI Corporation verbiage ¡°do-the-right-thing¡±. i.e. Pursuant to our ¡°Code of Business Conduct and Ethics¡± and continuous improvement¡¦, the Steve Dorr situation; as I am on record with SANM, ¡°¡¦rather than honoring my requests pursuant to Sanmina-SCI Corporation¡¯s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and continuous improvement¡¦, Mr. Jure Sola - Chairman and Chief Executive Officer retained the law firm Michael Best & Friedrich to suppress the existence, witness testimony and other material evidence of the situations I brought to the attention of Sanmina-SCI Corporation so that said corporation would discover for itself the mismanagement and misconduct occurring at Plant E20 that are directly caused by and/or supported by Plant E20¡¯s Senior Management and Plant E20¡¯s HR.¡±
What will it take to cause SANM to conduct a full complete investigation, with full document and testimony traceability, and correct each of our plants¡¯ manufacturing and business operations and the overall work environment so that all of our colleagues and I have a healthy and safe environment to work within to be of service to our customers and stockholders?
Thanks

Check the annual report and the the shareholder annual meeting report that contains the compensation for the corporate officers. They are raping the company. They are the only ones benefiting from this stock. Where is Olin King when you need him? Has anyone considered a class action suit?
A class action suit may be in near term.
I take full responsibility for the company. We are going through major changes right now and times are hard on the boulevard. The lay offs are not real, just a figure of your imagination. We are moving on to bigger and better things. David and i took our bonus this December and spent it on material things, phat diamond rings and no this is not just a song that i sing. It’s time to stand being the forces that rule over you.
Be apart, Stay apart and never leave a falling man standing.
Get the Stock While its HOT! Buy Sanmina so we can buy your future, Invest in the Best and Let Julo Solo handle the Rest!
2008 new year, come join the Dream Team, Me David and your Boy Manesh are making moves and their ain’t no one gonna stop us because we just “keep rising to the top”
Reading all of the comments above give a rather good picture of SANM. It is a company where “Management by fear” is the overall ruling guideline. If a customer wants to buy more products you might sell it to him, but only if you fear that your boss will be mad at you if you don’t.
SANM was a very disoriented company after the merger with SCI, did not find a good way forward, management simply could not handle the situation. After a year or two without proper management, integration projects started to “spread”, preferrably using junior internal consultants. Very convenient as you easily could force them to implement new things without too much protests, they simply do not understand the impact on business. Good people started to leave, leaving a middle management working for only one thing, their own career.
Top example of bad management from my years in the company is all the push for increased invoicing the quarter when top management had bonus based on it. Ethics was not The thing on the agenda at the time.
Without a complete change of top management I see only two options for the future, it will either be bought completely by Flex or someone similar that wants to get rid of “competition”. Last option is slow death by closing plants, selling parts of the company and similar actions.
Having seen hard times in the past I really thought all of the bad stuff was behind us but…… The lack of vision and blatent disregard for our customer base will drive Sanmina minus SCI into the tank for sure. At every turn they push out our existing knowledge base and hire contractors for more than they are worth to back fill the positions. They give no training and do not adhere to existing policies. The DAS side has been infected with Commercial people that care only about making sales. God help the service men that user our products. Anybody that is not looking better start. SSCI is circling the bowl!
The management at the top have lost the plot years ago. An ignorant style of management in Operations, a blaming culture, management by fear has caused this company to go down the drain. People are the most important asset to any company. Senior management simply forgot that simple rule
For those of you complaining about Sanmina’s stocks tanking, have you bothered to look at what’s happened over the past 10+ years with their stock? Honestly if you’re hoping that the stocks are going to jump up, you’re better off keeping them as collectibles. For those that bought their stock 5+ years ago, you should have sold several summers ago, when their stocks peaked around the $10-15 range.
So you can throw all of the new technologies, new products, and new people in. But the stock will never see above $10 in the near future.
It’s a simple theory on how Sanmina-SCI is being driven to the ground. The CEO was hired by a bunch of corporate hoo-hahs, that thought they could push around a naive European and tell him how to run the company. And as long as he gets paid, he doesn’t care what decisions he makes, more or less because he’s intimidated by the big figures. A lot of that has caused ignorance in the company.
So I’m with “senior ex employee”, and by the way, my father works for Sanmina-SCI. He makes pretty good money for being in a doomed company, and he isn’t even in management, he’s in purchasing. Either way, Sanmina is being led blindly, but with any luck somebody will stop the madness.
doom and glomers

No good news or comments !!
I fell that sanmina is going down the tubes as they can not pay their bills when it comes to ordering parts for machines that brake down, everything is put on credit hold. Wages at the plants are a joke
corning was 1.40 when i bought people thought it was over i got 1000 shares cheap now its worth 25000
this company will bounce back somewhat here or mexico it still has a product that has a demand just to many people rode that stock train to far down and not following the rules of investing
Just like the Soviet Empire and the Roman Empire, SCI got too large and imploded. To think 200 plants in what, 20 countries. In the late 90s and early 2000s, how many plants closed? It was a good company. Too many sellouts for temp agencies. That “Company Loyalty” was thrown under the bus for cheap labor. Temporary employees Do Not get company benefits and are not very loyal, as a general rule. The HP computer section was sent into shambles with poor quality output.
Sanmina went downhill as soon as they took the idiots that managed SCI Systems and put them in charge of nearly everything after the acquisition. Quality has really dropped (75% scrap at the Guad plants) and the company refuses to invest in any technology. Logistics in Sanmina? Hah!
These guys are trying to cut costs by buying from outside their authorized franchise distributors. The result is that the quality of the components they purchase has dropped. The poor quality parts come from suppliers that have only their short term profits at heart. The GSM team in Asia is full of people trying to get ” a better price” and then buy crap parts that do not work, no wonder they are scrapping so many finished goods. Thier customers are leaving for Foxconn - Hon Hai..Flextronics may pick up some business, but they have troubles with fake parts coming from the broker market as well. no one is immune. God help us when the electronics fail on the plane you are flying on..source from American companies only!
AH hey slugger get your facts right. Sanmina distroyed Sci. Ive work for them for over 25 years as a supplier of components. Sanmina had no ethics then and carried on the same poor business pratices after the merger. Any Sci manager that was worth anything left. They hated the west coast metality and abuse of relationships. Their buz word of “Partnerships” is more like them bending you over sticking in your A**. I give the two years and the only thing left here will be more peolpe jobless and some empty buildings. Thanks Global supply chain and corperate greed and golden parachutes. Stock holders, suppliers and its employees just got a golden shower…tick tick tick..2010.doa
i can not believe that the management will continue to do such a bad job…do they not read the news or see the stock price…please please do something soon….the faithful are waiting
In defense of Slugger, he is partly correct. SCI was once a strong company, but management drove it into the ground. Due to being poorly managed, they ended up deeply in debt and allowed a company half its size buy them out.
Sanmina then put most of the people who drove SCI into the ground in charge and that just made matters worse. It just sped up the downward spiral of Sanmina.
That’s not to say that Sanmina management was any better. They destroyed Hadco for example. They also have Mr. Hatchet (Hari Pillai) making statements that he wants to shutdown all domestic sites, and is still in the process of doing that.
Juri and his pals are only concerned about raping the company for every penny that they can squeeze for themselves, and will continue to do so until Sanmina is sold off in whole or in part.
Such a waste…
I own 1200 shares of SANM since June 1998. I bought it at 10.59 and now it’s at 1.50. I’ve given up on keeping my breath for a new day but with Jules Sola at the helm I keep wondering what he is stuffing up my ass.
I am writing as concerned shareholder who knows some things that has gone wrong within IT lately. What kind of wacko do you have by CIO? How would you explain that one year after he promoted someone to head Americas IT, he laid him off? And that new guy running Americas IT would do it from home office? How would you explain that he also laid off a guy who has headed IT for Latin America during all its growth and his function was consolidated into someone who does not have an IT background but only knowing Oracle as an advanced user? How come that is supposed to be cost reductions and all Americas IT Management traveled to Kentucky in March? Also, if it is cost reduction, does not make sense to better layoff a French expat that is working in San Jose? Some suggestion didnt were considered as nearshore (Mexico) which may impact offshore in India which is CIO country of origin. I wonder how many Hindu has he laid off from the 20-25% he has working for his organization? Is this racism? Another suggestion was to check open ERP which may cost less, but, may impact any hidden deal with Oracle, that SANM CIO may have? I would pay a lot of attention to what CIO is doing or has done. He is also sending the wrong message as latest reductions in Americas and Latin America IT was seen more as politics than cost reductions. What about the RIS Director? He has hired only Managers that were women? Should not he hire men also? Now he inherited lot of men managers but no one before, is that equal opportunities? Are you aware that he rest USA and Mexico holidays? Who has those benefits but him? What about when he travels, he also takes one Friday and one Monday off to stop at the city he was born but does not ask for vacation days? What about all the time he spent at home in Chapala when he should be at office? Getting to office late and leaving early? You can find it out checking his VPN log and cell phone high bill. What about using office time for charity stuff at Chapala (which is not wrong, but not in office hours)? One of his women Managers got very concerned when she knew about pilot to get an RFID Time and Attendance application which would help to know at any time who is in the office and where; did she blow whispered it and impacted good people employment who were pushing for this? What about this Chapala Director using his assistant from Sanmina-SCI also to help him at the charity stuff at Chapala and both have been leaving the office to go to meetings in Chapala? SANM has lot of people like him that only fatten the structure, have a great salary, have a lot of benefits and does not work but have friends like the CIO and the French VP. Last but not least, Americas IT RIS was named Disneyland because they travel a lot, does not suffer in the daily operation as they does not get involved as much as they should, and have a fun life. I hope you pay attention and fix what has gone wrong. Is not TRUST a SANM value? You are sending a different signal to hundreds if not thousands of people. You better improve and get the stock to higher levels.
And the rape and internal fights in the company continues, when every plant are responsible to report there P&L every week to top management with no interest in any thing but the numbers, if you are responsible to manage a site and take responsibility for you P&L, then you should be able to drive your changes, but no you are not. you just report the numbers and hope your not being raped by you fellow plant of your customers.
The fact is that Sanmina-SCI now closes and cut the lifeline to the very important Ericsson business by closing a plant in Sweden and try to move the business to a site in Hungary that have failed over and over again just to try and save it again due to the VP Europe are based there with his family.
I would be absolutely amazed if they won’t close the next site next to Nokia in Finland in the near future to ones again try and save the VP’s site again, and we are talking of a VP that was let go under strange circumstances 18month ago when raw material were lost on the site.
If not senior management or shareholders wake up very soon the company will just die
I would hate to see that happen.
OK Partners, be afraid of that term very afraid..Once again the wisdom of Sanmina Supply Chain is once again going to shit on its vendors and most of all the group of Independant Distributors they have made sign there lives away to get a few crumbs from them. They are about to start or should I say restart their re-bate program. Now this is a company with little to no money, last month they pushed out there payments to 90 plus days. They are adding Chinese brokers to the global list of supppliers. Probably because VW gets taken care of the local way…He loves going to the local watering holes with the locals on the clock…So now you can work on no margins and send your money to them before you get paid…Nice business right. They will once again cull the list to see who they can promise the world too and deliver nothing. The sad part is most of the guys on the list sold their mothers to get on it , so whats wrong betting the farm for a few pennies. We are partners right..Now bend over so I can take last nights dinner back. Sanmina will continue to take, take, take. Until the Independant community stands up and starts saying NO. Remember who and what YOU are ” Brokers”. Whatever happen to the old work ethic and attitude of ” a fair days pay for a good days work” or ” the best deal is everyone walks away from the table satisfied with what they came to achieve.” So the next time somebody on the list buys some of Sanmina’s excess ask them what the guarantee is..They will tell you bought it AS IS. But in the supplier contract you are subject to rework, eng expense, freight, and a slew of other expenses. But for that opportunity you sold your souls. Fools.
What I have read from previous posts makes me sick. It seems obvious that this company’s management has plainly sold out for their personal benefit and to hell with anyone else. Shame on you!
Does anyone in management have the balls to address this forum in an open an honest manner?
To Cueb3,
Welcome to the New World Order. The land where corperate pigs take it all and only do whats good for their bonuses and the bottom line. They will not address anything until the US government steps in and there too busy fighting a bullshit war and pissing our money and country down the drain. These guys are only a reflection of business in the EMS sector and the drain that is happening in this country. Remember the statement made by Ross Perot ” NAFTA what the hell is NAFTA, Ill tell you what NAFTA is…It will be a giant sucking sound of American jobs leaving this country.”
The largest reason that SANM will implode is that they are loosing the quality war. They are loosing the quality war, because they are trying to make money on the purchases of their components. SANM can no longer make money by sourcing from franchise and direct - then building a board for a customer. SANM management Global supply managers ( GSM) in Mexico and China are corrupt. One (Mexican) recently received a motorcyle as a “gift” . He was fired. The supplier was then put on the “preffered list” and awarded more business. This is a dirty-dirty company. They are desperate as Flextronics and Foxconn eat them for lunch.
Sanmia Allen facility is run by an uneducated high school deplomaed moron (John English) that rules by intimidation. If an employee cannot be brow beaten then he is not needed. If you’re sick, sure you can go home just don’t come back cuz you have no job. Sure it may be a good place to work if you can’t speak english and can get by on $7 an hour. No training whatsoever. No integrity. They do not want happy employees. If you have time to be happy then you must not be doing enough work. They care not for quality work and don’t mind shipping sub quality work to make money. I was a 25+ year employee that started when it was Rockwell then Alcatel. The worst day of my life came when Sanmina took over. Worst company that I know of anybody personally working at. It was an embarrassment to tell people where I worked. Thank God I finally left. If they treat their employees this bad just think how they treat their customers. We could’nt get equipment repaired cuz they never paid their bills and nobody would come fix stuff anymore. Boy what a well run outfit this is. If you still have money invested in this shithole dump it as fast as you can or you will be left with nothing. Just speaking facts.
But it now its fixin to skyrocket baby!!
I agree. Before i jumped off the ship the numbers were looking good. Get the Stock While it’s HOT! I am looking from the outside and it’s time to spend your paycheck on the Stock that’s hot in 2008!
Waste no more Time, Buy Sanmina-SCI
I am responding to the concerned shareholder that posted a message.
Sir, Don’t be concerned, your investment is very needed right now and i hope you continue to invest more in the company.
I promise David, Manesh and Myself are all taking good care of your money.
Invest, Invest and oneday you will be able to retire and thank Julo Solo for keeping your money safe in San Jose.
Regards,
Julo Solo
Actually if one does invest in purchasing stock in this company, where exactly do the funds from the sale go?
I reviewed a SEC filing from 2007. I can honestly say I am a little appalled in learning just how much the yearly wages were for only just three members of the board. Not counting stock options and other awards. Solo’s wages were over $780K dollars. White’s was $400K and Pillai’s was over $450K. Three members received a $150K bonus. I don’t see any reason why these members are allowed to make so much. One would think there would be limits in place. I’m employed at one of these plants. The wages I am being paid, I would have to work the next forty five years to make the same amount Solo makes in a year.
I think the members of the board should show their appreciation by investing at least thirty to forty percent of their yearly income. And sell at least half of their vested stock options and invest it back into the company. So plants still in operation can purchase needed equipment and supplies. Issue a $2.00 an hour for cost of living expenses. The SEC filing stated the wages paid were compared to five to six other companies in the area. What? Was this comparison taken over ten years ago?
I’m glad I left Sanmina on my own before getting axed. I found out that all corporate IT positions (such as ECMS & Networking) will be backfilled with people in Mexico and India so Manesh can keep costs down.
Most of those who have talent left Sanmina on their own or have been let go. That’s the Sanmina way - get rid of talent and keep those that are worthless. Just look at the Huntsville network and ecms team…
Manesh’s goal is to get rid of the remaining team in SJ as the salaries are much higher. It doesn’t matter that these are the people who have talent and work their butts off providing support to the rest of the organization as opposed to the people in Huntsville who do nothing but berate people all day.
All they care about is cutting cost so that Juri & his pals can get their ridiculous bonuses.
have to agree with most of the comments. IT is heading downhill in this company. for whatever reason CIO is hiring unqualified people like new Americas IT director. He knows nothing about IT. It’s a shame because there are number of people working hard in IT and they now report to someone that should be doing excel spreadsheets, not running IT.
I have to agree with everything said. I work at the Allen plant (less than 1 yr.) and the moral of the people is zero. Everyone wants to leave. Micro-management and fear of layoff is the daily existance. Poor management through out the company will kill SSCI. Bills aren’t paid on time, people are expendable, little forward thinking and no thoughts to the future.
It was good experience for almost 2 years with great plant controller and plant manager. I think it depends which division, managers and people around you. Even the company is not getting any better, we should wish SSCI good luck in the future. No one can predict future, but we know the Semiconductor Industries are tough these days, not only Sanmina-SCI
To my knowledge of Sanmina Sci is good company, but it’s a bad management background, especially the Sanmina Plan in Allen. It’s running by John English and covers by his boss, he treats the employees like a trash, unprofessional manner, if you are sick just stay home, don’t show up and if you take vacations at least 2 weeks or 1 month in advance. More than a halt of the employees got fired, quit; most of the people got the skills left the company or got laid off. There is no Equal Employment Opportunity at this place; a lot of verbal harassment involves the right of the employee. This place should be investigated deeply. I will recommend the stock share holders do not hold too long, you will be like Enron, they loose a lot of contracts because of bad quality run by the top management hiring with the people with skill less.
Everybody got fired from this place should get help and sued this guy: John English and his boss
The sanm company i know for long time, but i think with the management is bad make for the copany go down, kill all stock holder.please ….
This thread is amazing! I’d be curious to know how many of Sanmina’s plant managers have the management traits we are hearing about here. Management by fear and intimidation, low to no higher formal education, lack of ability to manage, etc. At Plant 431, the fatter the personnel file is with abuse complaints, the faster they get promoted. The good managers don’t get promoted and in fact, get strong encouragement to leave.
I’m guessing the corporate guys aren’t getting these bad managers by accident, it must be actually by design. I’m also guessing they require daily monitoring of the P&L because their top plant management probably doesn’t know how to read a P&L.
Since the management is uneducated, they probably don’t know you are supposed to manage things and people and the P&L should reflect whether you are doing that correctly. Its no wonder things are in chaos when you monitor and adjust the measuring tool as opposed to managing the inputs.
It would be great to see more input from other Sanmina plants on their plant manager’s abilities or lack thereof.
431 is probably the most mismanaged facility in the whole company. I worked there for quite some time before finally coming to my senses. The tandem of Shawn Lannerd and Gene Rudland are the biggest morons I’ve ever worked with…they don’t care about the employees…they only care about “fixing” the books so they look good. I can’t even remember how many times employees have complained to HR about these 2…but it does no good. Real shame too because there’s lots of good employees here. Guess it will all end when they finally close this plant and move the business to Mexico.
Chickity China da Chineese Chicken hav a drumstick and your brain starts crickken,Crickken
If you suspect that plant management is “fixing” their books (so to speak), then you should report these concerns to the SEC.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the SEC came in along with the IRS and did a full-scale investigation? Just the rumor of this would cause their stock to plummet even further and maybe even get them delisted from NASDAQ. Oh what a happy day that would be. Jure would no longer be CEO, and that Pillai idiot might get axed!
Bye bye Sanmina…..it’s a pleasure to serve you as my banking, and soon enough my bank account will be reducing in daily basis. Farewell my love, hope your journey continue without me. You will remain in my heart forever because you are my forever banker in the past years. Sure I will miss you so much
I read on one of the other blogs that Foxconn is looking to buy out Sanmina completely and that the announcement was to be made after fiscal year end 2008. Is there any truth to this??? Best thing that could happen to Sanmina!
Not likely to happen since there are US DOD intrests in H’ville. I don’t think thet the DOD would allow a foreign nationally owned company to own the entire company. Maybe LMCO will purchase this and can the current management in Cali.
Things in plant e69 are a mirror of these comments. No plant management and all focus is in getting China up and going.
Computer hard drives of upper management where seized and download by investigators last month. Everybody is jumping ship because of bad management
Very poor quality is standard practice ,just ship it
I work in the Livermore plant and we are all wondering what the hell is going on with Sanmina.
Here is what has been going on in the last few months.
There is almost no work coming in. Instead of keeping the key people and having layoffs, which is the american way, they are making us all take 10 to 15 days per quarter off to save on payroll.
Then when your off they pay a 3rd shift person double time to cover you. THATS RIGHT, MANDATORY DAYS OFF TO SAVE MONEY AND PAYING DOUBLETIME TO OTHERS TO COVER!!!!
No work to do but we have 3 shifts running. THREE SHIFTS DOING NEXT TO NOTHING!!!!
No work to do yet they are HIRING MORE WORKERS.
I am getting half a paycheck while the new guys work 50 to 60 hours a week.
UNFAIR AND INSANE!!
It is my beleif that our management is coming up with hairbrain ideas to make themselves look busy to the corporate fatcats.
We spend more time doing paper work than we do making parts.
We have way, way, way to many office workers. And if we are so slow why do we need so many. We are a machine shop and we have more office workers than we do machinists.
I have literally done nothing for the past 3 weeks and not one lead man, manager, or coworkers has asked what I am working on.
Nobody cares.
Moral is very low.
I feel we are being ridden into the desert on a half dead horse and being steered away from the “profit trough” by managers who are willing to ride until she drops and then scatter in the wind.
I WANT TO WORK.
STOP THE INSANITY SANMINA.
Get someone with some common sense in here and lets kick some ass’es and turn this thing around.
Well the latest and greatest of all time management f’ups is here in Texas. A line worker took 2 wks paid VAC. While on VAC his supervisor and the quasi-plant manager, John English called the guys personal cell phone on a Friday and asked him to come to work, as they had something really hot and only he could do it. The guy came in and worked 6 hrs completing the request. ON HIS FREAKING VACATION!!!! Then the guy called in Monday July 7, didn’t come to work and John English docked him his July 4 holiday pay. What a jerk!!!!
Any other plants getting major cosmetic make-overs but having management refusing to upgrade the production equipment to actually get work done? Think that means they are getting ready for closure and selling the property? Or simply that they don’t know any better?
Well you know apparantly the main CEO does not care about what happens there. Nothing has happened yet to that damn jerk punk John English. He diffenetly has no experince with good workers that have work at the Allen plant that know what they are doing. I work for Rockwell Int ALcatel and when we became Sanmina and stayed in Richardson we did ok not the greatest but ok. After we went to Allen and as long as the same people that were running it from Richardson we were still ok. After John and Jay got there it went down hill after that then it became a shit hole of a company after 2 yrs that they were there. People that have been there a long time knew what they were doing and then John comes in a tries to put people in that have never worked on circuit boards and have them work on them put people in there doing maint work when they were not quilified to do the work. Yells at a women that is pregent that had very high blood pressure and caused it to go higher and didn’t care. Talks to you like you are a no body and it took us workers being there to do all the danm work and work the OT to get it all done so he and Jay could look good and all he gives you is a pat on the back telling you did a good job and then hands you a piece of paper that you can use in the vending machine oh yea. We come up to Allen and we were doing corprate challenges and then having an open house to show our families were we work and what we do to having stuff taken out of our break room the TV taken out First Aid boxes going away hell we needed a baidaid we had to bring our own. Broke the rules on safety on handling someone that cut thier hand pretty bad and people were just handling blood soaked towels and cleaning up the mess their self. No manager was there at the plant at the time and he was called and even after all that still didn’t get first aid boxes out there and if a problem happened like that again didn’t have the bags and safety stuff handle that with. This kind of man needs to be stoped and the workers that are left need to file a harasment suit against him. That place is nothing but a sweat shop and he doesn’t care if you quit or not. The comment about the guy had to come in from his vaction was all wrong I wouldn’t of done it they would of had to fire me before I come off my vaction then dock you for taking off on the holiday. This is all wrong. Like I said work there for 30 yrs and never never in my life seen a company run like that one is. Me I would think if you get good work out you would treat the employess better than that expecially the most experince ones they are the ones that will cover your ass when worked needs to get done and out the door. So my comment is get rid of the bastard.
Looks like the majority that leave comments about the work ethics at Sanmina-SCI, need to use spell check. In regards to the comment left about the guy that took vacation and was asked to come in and work one day. Paid vacation time doesn’t count towards paid holiday. So if the employee worked one day. That employee would only be paid regular time.
The federal government states there will be one more minimum wage increase next year. Now if the federal government policies change? And add another two years with a 70 cent increase for each year that follows. After four years time, one minimum wage worker be paid more in hourly wages than a regular company paid employee at Sanmina-SCI. The comparison includes the yearly wage increase Sanmina-SCI issues on a yearly basis to the regular workers.
Now that’s pathetic
anyone know anything about the Owego NY plant? Closed? Open?
Is Huntsville closing or not? When will India be finished? Are the majority of the operations moving to India?
I worked for Sanmina sometime ago in NH, we were another company doing very well till Sanmina came along and bought up a bunch of printed circuit companies. They had a GM that couldn’t manage himself out of a paper bag (AF)as we were begining to sink he jump ship and left the rest of us out to dry. That was the point the stocks begin to fall. Sanmina never made an attempt to save the company let alone their falling stocks. I was lucky enough to sell mine at 118.00, but many were not as lucky.
Sanmina is going to china and India there’s no way to slow it down
I spent quite a few years at plant 431. In order to save my sanity, I bailed months back, but I still talk to old friends there as well as associates at customers that still do business with the plant. The stories I hear are strange to say the least. Dumb and dumber (as the top two are called) appear to have an extreme amount of contempt for both the employees and the customers. Cosmetic upgrades to the plant (like an new lobby) continue while the antiquated production and test equipment continue to deteriorate. Rumor has it that these improvements have actually been contracted to the plant manager’s son.
My theory: Sanmina has left a crew of socially graceless buffoons in charge of the ship with the intent of seeing it scuttled. It’s a pity and a waste. At one time, that plant was a highly profitable machine. It will be a real loss to the town when it folds. Maybe the new lobby will be able to attract a buyer for the building. So let’s all think happy thoughts about a better company taking the facility over and restoring it to its former status as a place you could while away your pointless life in moderate comfort with the knowledge that you were at least a little bit appreciated for the upper-mid level quality product you churned for a middling wage. Sans the current management, of course.
Sanmina has laid off their workforce in Kenosha WI. Everything is being sent to Mexico. Workers had no compensation for years of work. Terrible Company!!!!!
I work in Laredo, Texas where the hub and the repair center are and there’s very very bad morale here. My boss in Allen, Tx. is a Micro Manager who has no hands-on expr. in manufacturing. He’s so insecure and is getting worst by the day..
I was one of about 120 recent Sanmina Kenosha Lay Offs. I’m so glad i’m out of there! The only reason any of us stayed there was for the medical plan. The place is a sweat shop run by a penny pinching tightwad. The equipment is old and dilapidated, the building is just barely maintained, but Management gets huge bonuses! Hey Bill, How’s that new boat? Can I have a ride on it? Oh, I forgot, I’m just ‘little people’.
I work at the Sanmina-SCI plant in Huntsville,AL & even though I have only been working there for 2 years, in that short time, I’ve seen countless things they are messing up. In the past few months, stocks haven’t got past $1. This afternoon it was $.68!! Do they know this?? And everyday, there are workers who have been there a long time(20+ years) who are getting mad because the company isn’t running it like they should. They change procedures when they dont’ need to be changed. They bring you in on overtime & have little or nothing to do. When you have a suggestion to help the company, they don’t listen. I just don’t get why they would take a great company that SCI was & turn it to crap. The managers don’t know what they’re doing at that plant. Sometimes I wonder if they trying to make it bad on purpose. And just reading some of the posts on here, I learned a lot. I didn’t know that they was moving stuff to India & China. I know they can’t move the goverment contracts but still. They could turn the company around if they just listen to the people who have worked there & know what they are doing.
What you are seeing with this company is that the management can only manage well in the good times. The stratagies used only work once if at all. Forcing time off to “make the books look better”, reverse splits to make the stock appear to be worth more than it is. REALLY? Do they think the rest of the world is a stupid as they are.
The Huntsville campus is being decimated by BRAC and it will only get worse.
In short if you are an employee and you still own stock you probably will have a management position within the next year. The only problem will be that you will most likely be managing yourself.
2nd layoff in austin sanmina
now everything should be ok
are they laying off at the other Sanmina plants? Something has to give.
I’m also a recent layoff from Sanmina-SCI. There were I think 3 waves of layoffs at that plant. This company is being primed for a take over no doubt, big layoffs at office and high skill level often the most senior people go first because they were seen as a bigger “savings” only to pad the pocket of the board a bit more. Loyalty, commitment and going above and beyond job description means nothing to the accountants that run the place because it doesnt have a $ sign in front of it.
The announcement of shutdowns over the next holidays too forces people to burn all vacation they have and a lot have to take unpayed days.
Newsflash Everyone: to a company, your vacation time is a liability. new buyers dont want to buy liabilities.
Another wave of lay-offs at the Kenosha Plant last week. Whoopee! The fun never ends!
I smell made up profits
Does SCI have any new product contracts in the works to help the situation? I heard they are working on getting a major contract?
Parata Systems. They make pharmacy automation systems, but thats bound to be low volume and not enough to rescue the company from itself. The problem with the company is the company itself they have crazy thoughts about whats a good idea. Like promoting people just because they’re in the right clique or their lunch buddy, then they go on to get rid of people who have been covering for them for years and had no recognition for that fact. The company is on hold with most of its suppliers too, even before all this global credit crisis started. They also have a lot of procedures in place still from the 70’s and refusal to change them because they think work fine like tons of information on paper and in peoples head. It reminds me of that TV ad for quickbooks where they have all their stuff on post-it notes. The marketing people at that ad company must know some Sanmina people.
At the Owego NY plant i hear there isnt gong to layoffs but they are making people work only 24 hrs for the holiday weeks. They dont want to pay any extra money. I wish knew what is going to happen with this plant. My friends and family work there and i hate to see them lose their jobs!
At the Huntsville, AL plant, they are making us use our vac time for the week of Thanksgiving since they are going to be closed all week. Makes us mad since most of us there don’t have enough time to use & will have to use ELWOP. I’ve been told that even though its excused LWOP it still counts against you. When the floor was off for the 4th of July, they gave them all unemployment & they didn’t have to take their vac time. Why can’t they do that now? Floor didn’t have any work then. They are closeing the plant to do repairs on the wiring. That’s not our fault! I smell a trap. My thinking is they are going to layoff after Thanksgiving & those who had used ELWOP will get it. They will have to make-up the money somewhere since no one can work & nothing is getting done that week. No wonder the stock & all that is worthless. They don’t know how to run a company.
I suggest using that vacation t
